Irish, Colonial, Southern Roots
Senator McCain’s ancestor Alexander McKean emigrated from Northern
Ireland in the early 1700s.
McCain has North Carolina roots on both sides of his family tree, extending to the state’s colonial days. On his father’s side, his great–great–great–grandparents Richard and Ann Fenner were born there in the mid 1700s. On his mother’s side, two of his great–great–grandfathers – William Kidwell and Archibald Wright – were born in North Carolina in the early 1800s.
