English Settlers in Barbados, 1637-1800

Established by British settlers in 1627, Barbados became the ancestral home for numerous individuals who later journeyed to mainland America, establishing roots in regions such as Virginia, Georgia, the Carolinas, and beyond. Indeed, spanning the 17th and 18th centuries, a steady stream of Barbadian settlers embarked on voyages to nearly every corner of the Atlantic seaboard. Consequently, many families can trace their lineage in the New World back to Barbados.

The parish registers of Barbados, painstakingly copied during the mid-19th century, now reside within the esteemed halls of the Barbados Department of Archives. Within these volumes lies a treasure trove of ancestral information meticulously compiled from those original registers. Each volume offers unique insights, with valuable contextual details provided in the Foreword or Preface. Spanning baptismal, marriage, and probate records, these sources collectively reference approximately 200,000 individuals, serving as invaluable resources for those seeking to unveil their family histories.
