Our Florida-named ancestors are thought to come from Ireland to America. The earliest we know of was born in Vermont about 1732 when the name was spelled Flarida. Most of his children spelled it Florida. Our direct ancestors settled in New York state by 1810 and married into another of our Irish ancestors, the Lynch family. Some descendants moved to Nebraska and Montana.
