My great grandfather (fathers, fathers, father), Stefan Hertel, was a general in the lancer division in the Kaiser’s army. He hailed from Schwabach, Bavaria, Germany. He used to have a copy of the Duden with our coat of arms that was passed down through the generations. My father and grandfather both said it was a blue shield with a white stump on it. Neither of them can remember the full story that went with it. We know very little about the lineage beyond him or the story of the coa. If it helps with records, he married Eva. I don’t know her maiden name
