I was told that my Armenian ancestors lived on one of the islands in the Aegean Sea. My birthmother says Skorpios and I say some other S named island like Samos. One of my relatives was a banker and the other was a furniture maker. I am not sure if they fled the Armenian Genocide Hamidian Massacre of the 1800s or if they fled just prior to or during the 1915 Genocide. I was told my one relative wanted to become a missionary and may have joined the Presbyterians who may have been stationed in Turkey.
I am not sure of the point of entry for any Armenians who didn't go to Watertown. I am not sure if my ancestors went through Ellis Island. I just know that somehow my Great Grandparents ended up in Hawkinsville, Macon County, Georgia. Apparently there is a small Armenian population in Macon County, Georgia. I am also wanting to know if his surname was a misspelling (phonetic spelling) and that Kavorkian is what immigration has him as rather than Kevorkian which is son of George which makes more sense and there are more Armenians with a Kevorkian surname.
