The surname SHOVELIN, derived from O’Seableain,  was generally Anglicized to SHEVLIN by enumerators when recorded in Griffith’s Valuations mid-19th century.   It was sometimes pronounced SHIVLEN in some areas of Southwest Donegal.  Today it is mainly spelled SHOVLIN in that area.
