My maiden name is Sawicz. According to Ellis Island records, my great-grandfather, Adam, came to America from Austria in 1897. Specifically, a region known as Galicia. He first settled in Salem, MA and then later in Cohoe, NY with his wife Paulina (Czejkowski). I have been unable to find any record of other family members, with that surname, that I can directly connect to Adam (other than his children), however, I have located the surname in western New York state, as well as Pennsylvania.  I have also found contemporary individuals with the surname living in Poland and England. One person, via Facebook, told me that, although he lived in Poland, the name’s origins are Lithuanian. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
