About Unwanted
When I read Unwanted (The Unfolding Saga), I followed Sandy’s story against the backdrop of a much older conspiracy. D.W. Anderson begins with Susan’s memories of New York in 1930, then shifts to Sandy’s life in Columbus, Ohio, decades later. Those different periods establish a story in which decisions made long before Sandy’s time can reach into her own family.
I met Sandy as a woman trying to build a life with very little security to her name. Her childhood in foster care has taught her to depend on herself. She wants a home, stability, and the opportunity to make her own way. That background helps explain why an offer of assistance might matter so much when her circumstances become difficult.
In the opening of her story, an unexpected pregnancy, betrayal, and financial pressure bring those difficulties into focus. The help being offered is connected to people who know more about Sandy than she understands. The reader can see a larger plan taking shape around someone whose immediate concerns are intensely personal.
The mystery behind Sandy’s story
Behind that plan is an organization pursuing eugenics, secrecy, and control over families. That is the larger danger surrounding Sandy’s struggle. The publisher describes the central conflict as her fight to reclaim her son from the conspiracy. I can share that premise while leaving the discoveries and outcome for you to encounter in the book.
Alongside that plot, I followed Sandy’s questions about faith. Her prayers, doubts, and memories of a nurse named Ruthy give that part of her life a place in the story. The novel brings questions of trust and human worth into the same narrative as deception and the manipulation of vulnerable people. Family is both a personal concern and something others are trying to control.
For readers looking for an introduction to the book, here is how I would describe its starting point: a woman seeking stability becomes entangled in something that spans generations. Her story brings together the search for belonging, the influence of the past, and the struggle to protect a family. You can explore the Amazon sample below before deciding whether to read further.
Questions about family, belonging, and the influence of earlier generations connect this novel with interests many family-history readers share. It is a work of fiction, rather than a genealogy research guide.
About the author

Dan Anderson, who writes as D.W. Anderson, is my friend from church. Beyond books, Dan is an entrepreneur, a published songwriter, and a lifelong musician. According to his publisher’s biography, his Christian faith began when he started attending church on his own at age ten.
