The index of Colonial Families in the United States of America was compiled painstakingly over thirteen years. It features only those families who trace their lineage back to the Colonial Period (1607-1775). Each family history article spans from three to twenty scanned pages and includes the British or European pedigree of the colonial ancestor, followed by a list of their descendants up to the time of writing. The amount of information about each individual listed varies depending on the original article.

By researching your ancestors, you can gather valuable information such as their birth date, marriage date, occupation, and death date. Additionally, you can discover their migration pattern and even view their coat of arms. The data set for family history articles was compiled from a range of sources, including genealogies, family histories, vital records, cemetery inscriptions, and marriage and birth/death lists from various regions of colonial America. The Genealogical Publishing Company, located in Baltimore, Maryland, generously provided these seven volumes.
